Smear of make-up (mascara)

test hundreds of products in my work every year, and I get to know the world of cosmetics regularly in various trainings. So I want to share cosmetic tips to make life easier for you too, and this time it’s my turn on mascara cleansers. If you have someone of your favorite, share it in the comments!

Choosing the right kind of mascara for you is your own challenge. Mascara can be a water-soluble, water-resistant, or so-called heat-lockable version. All versions also have their own optimal way to remove it. It is important that you choose the removal product so that you do not have to rub the sensitive area around the eyes unnecessarily. If you are using a cotton swab, press it against your lashes for a moment to allow the remover to take effect. Avoid tearing the lashes sideways, remove the eyelashes lightly in the direction of eyelash growth.

This article briefly reviews the differences between mascara types, and I give my own product recommendations for their effective and mascara-removing removal. I usually shop at either Sokos’ stone-foot shop and Lykon or Hyvinvoinnin-fi online stores, and I have a really good experience with these, so the links to this post lead to these of my own favorite shops.

WATER – SOLUBLE EYELASHES

Water-soluble mascara works well for most, and is the traditional and most common composition for mascara. Novelties are usually published specifically in this composition. Many like water-soluble lashes because they are easy to remove. Many people prefer oil-free cleansing because it does not damage eyelash extensions, so if you want to add eyelash extensions to your lower lashes, there is no need to worry about the extensions dripping.

Thus, water-soluble makeup can be removed with an oil-free cleaner. Some people like to use the same cleanser as the whole face, and oils, balms and creams are often well suited for this purpose. However, I do not recommend foamy scrubs close to the eyes. However, eye cleansers are often the best option in the sense that efficiency meets gentleness.

BEST CHEAP REMOVAL

My own recommendation for users of almost all eyelashes, including those with sensitive eyes, is * L’óreal Paris Bi-Phase Waterproof Eye Make-up Remover . This beauty removes both water-soluble and water-resistant eye makeup without oils! The product uses silicones instead of oils, which do not irritate the eyes, and therefore this scrubber is also ideal for users of pillars.

However, if you really have a very permanent waterproof mascara, as you usually have, you can also try the tips below for waterproof mascara.

THE BEST NATURAL COSMETIC REMOVER

For lovers of water-soluble mascara and natural cosmetics, I recommend Lavera Sensitive Eye Make up Remover , which is really good value for money . This is especially true if you also use natural cosmetic mascaras. The product is also suitable for sensitive eyes. It moisturizes the delicate skin around the eyes thanks to its aloe vera and healing berry extracts.

THERMAL LASHES

Heat-locked mascara (tubing) is the best option for you if your eyelids are easily greased, because where the water-resistant mascara is specifically soluble in oil, the heat lock is activated by warm water. The heat-locked mascara also withstands abrasion quite well, so take it for a try if your lashes hit your eyelid or if you have glasses. In many cases, heat-locked mascara holds bends slightly better than a water-soluble composition.

Heat-locked mascara is intended to be removed with warm water. Depending on the brand, mascara is usually removed with 38-39 degrees water. My tip for removing heat-locked mascara is to make sure the water is really warm enough . Avoid excessive rubbing and plucking of the eyelid, instead rotate the lashes carefully. You can also try soaking a cotton swab or cleaning cloth in warm water and keeping it on your eyes for a while before washing.

You can also remove even heat-sealed mascara with an oil-based cleaner for water-resistant lashes.

WATERPROOF EYELASHES

Waterproof mascara is perfect for you if your eyes bleed easily or sweat easily. It is also a good option for parties and outdoor activities. I’ve done a comparison of the best water-resistant mascaras in the past, so if you’re looking for the perfect water-resistant one, read the story here !

Water-resistant mascara requires the right, usually oil-based, cleanser to prevent lashes from accumulating. I don’t think most liquid water-resistant removers work properly without rubbing. I don’t like having to remove the product several times in a row, and I don’t want to damage my lashes by rubbing. The requirements are high!

BEST CHEAP REMOVAL

My personal favorite of the affordable brands is the Vival cleaning pads. The pack contains 100 really thin oily patches, and even a permanent eyelash extender with one patch from both eyes without rubbing, which means that the pack lasts for three months.

BEST SELECTIVE REMOVAL

If you want to invest in quality, efficiency and like fragrance-free products, then * Clinique’s Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm is a great product for all make-up cleansing in addition to lashes. You can also find effective liquid cleaning in the same line if you want a different composition.

THE BEST NATURAL COSMETIC REMOVER

Of the natural cosmetics cleansers, my absolute favorites are the Finnish * Luonkos oil purification cakes , and especially * Radiant . They are also really effective and plentiful, they have no synthetic raw material and they work quite certainly without rubbing. Personally, I have used Luonkos cake, spreading them with my fingers on dry skin without any pads. The whole Luonkos series is absolutely wonderful, you should definitely check it out if you are not familiar yet!
